Ideas for 'Narrative Project'
Experimental Shoots:-
SHOOT 1
Here is my first joiner from shoot 1, created out of skulls. This is inspired by David Hockney. We had the opportunity to feature animal skulls in our photographs in school. I used Photoshop to develop my photographs into a joiner and this was my outcome. This is one of my experimental shoots where I will test ideas and techniques by using the camera and computer programmes.
WWW:- I successfully created a joiner in the style of David Hockney for my first experimental shoot.
EBI:- I could of used clearer photographs when creating my joiner in Photoshop.

Investigating A Photographer Of Our Choice
Ansel Adams
Ansel Adam's landscape photography has given me ideas on creating landscape narratives for my project. Ansel Adams was an American photographer born on the 20th of February 1902. He specializes in capturing images of landscapes, commonly in black and white which are often widely reproduced onto calendars, posters and books. I will be converting my final draft to black and white to follow the depth of contrast Adams has in his images.
SHOOT 2
For this shoot I travelled to Devon in the holidays to capture Ansel Adams inspired beach landscapes. I converted the following image to black and white to follow Ansel Adams's highly contrast photography. I edited the photograph so it became even darker around the edges to make the viewer feel something while looking at the photograph, unease for example.
Inspired by Ansel Adams
WWW:- I have followed the black and white theme of Ansel Adams. I have took a landscape photograph that also has elements of Ansel Adams's work.
EBI:- It would have been better if the cliffs in the background were more focused.

Here I create a mind-map to think of more ideas that I could experiment with.
SHOOT 3
With the next few shoots I look at travelling and the the journey of going somewhere. I travelled to Egypt in the holidays and received the perfect opportunity to capture the journey of travelling. I used some of my images from other projects to make the story more clear and fluent. In Egypt I visited temples and tombs and captured these moments using my camera.
The journey of travelling...
WWW:- It displays the journey of going to the airport, flying, walking to the hotel room and being at the room.
EBI:- I could have added more images in between so the story of the images was more easy to work out.

Photoshop Edit
I edited the 3rd image above using Photoshop. First of all I clicked Image -> Adjustments -> Black and White and changed reds to -187%, yellows to 68%, greens to 29%, cyans to -74%, blues to 129% and magentas to 300%. Next I clicked Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast and changed the brightness to 150 and the contrast to -50.
SHOOT 4
WWW:- My photographs are all focused and follow the same theme of travelling.
EBI:- It would be better if there was a stronger meaning to the photographs.

Photoshop Edit
I edited the last photograph above. First I cropped the image down. I then clicked Image -> Adjustments -> Brightness/Contrast and kept the brightness at 0 but changed the contrast to 100. Then I converted it to black and white.
SHOOT 5
For this shoot I edit a photo to black and white again, this time with people rather than landscapes.
WWW:- I have a range of different photographs that I have captured.
EBI:- The story could have a stronger meaning again.

Self Critique
WWW:-
I was really pleased with how my photographs turned out. They are focused and clear.
EBI:-
I could try and make the stories more obvious and develop my final idea from my experimental shoots above.

Critique
WWW:-
Yasmin "I like how you have gone to different places and remembered to take the photos. They are interesting photos. I want to see more."
Gianna "Really nice work very clear and interesting photographs from something unusual. I like a lot the last photograph because we can see different shapes."
EBI:-
Yasmin "You could add a self critique so you know what your next steps are."

Analysing a piece of Duane Michals's Work
More ideas, looking at personal narratives.
SHOOT 6
Here is another experimental shoot of a more personal narrative, my pets. This shoot features my dog and his daily routine of waking up, playing and sleeping. I also develop one of my images to black and white.
Day in the life of a dog
WWW:- My photographs show what my dog does daily.
EBI:- It could follow the theme of travelling to link with the photographs above even though it is an experimental shoot.

SHOOT 7
In this shoot I start using objects to express stories. I change some of the photographs to black and white in this shoot too, following Ansel Adams's style. This is my last experimental shoot and I will soon develop my final idea as I have experimented with all my ideas.
Making a cup of coffee.
WWW:- The photographs show the stages of making a cup of coffee.
EBI:- The photographs should be either all black and white, filtered or unfiltered.

Final Idea
For my final piece I am going to produce a series of photographs with a purse being the main object. The meaning of the photographs reflect the people in the world who have financial issues. It will tell the story of someone having to go through these problems.
SHOOT 8 - Final Piece
I created the shoot below using a purse, money and my camera. I used Photoshop to change the images to black and white by clicking Image -> Adjustments -> Black and White. I chose to use this filter because it links to Duane Michals work.
